A very satisfying performance made all the more pleasing knowing it was obtained without four of our more experienced players who were unavailable with BP (holiday), Barnsey, Ships and Sparky all injured.
The shuffling of the squad saw Martin Addison slot into the centre half position for a very satisfying debut and the moving of Tom Halliwell to central midfield. Both proved to be a massive pluses as Marty hardly placed a foot wrong and Tom continued his goal scoring ‘Purple patch‘ with our opener, as he lashed home a loose ball in the visitors penalty area.
The performance also saw Frankie and Browney back to their best. They have not been performing badly, but for the first time in several weeks, the two of them combined to run Walsham’s defence ragged.
This level of form I am sure will be maintained now that Frankie has resolved his injury issue.
Browney’s confidence will have received a massive boost as he grabbed four goals, and although Frankie didn’t score, it wont be long coming whilst he is in this form.
With the score 4 - 0 at halftime, the expected, although we talked about it not happening, ’stepping down’ occurred, allowing Walsham to pull two goals back.
Then followed a goal line clearance from Robbo as we started to ’rock’but upon Browney adding our fifth goal, the nerves settled.
Skipper for the day (what’s the score!) Solley, then added our sixth and his first goal for the club with a good header.
The only black note on the day a pulled groin for ’Whitty’ means he joins the over 30’s injured list, what is it with these old boys!! It will now be interesting to see who we get in the next round in the Radio Norfolk draw on Friday. It could be one of the Ridgeo’s Premier League sides Wroxham , Dereham and company, who now enter the competition, or perhaps a local derby with Long Stratton who did well to dispatch Sprowston Athletic.
