Our first defeat away from home since 11th November 2006 came at Sheringham where we eventually lost 3 - 2 to a side who‘s lowly league position belies their ability and everybody expects them to climb the table and finish some where in the top six.
Without some of their more renowned players, I felt they looked a far better balanced side than the one that lost 3 - 0 in their local derby with Cromer just four days earlier. The incoming players in my opinion gave them more mobility and graft, looking more of threat up front.
For our part, I felt that having twice been ahead we should have got something out of the game and this looked to be the case when Rob Browne let a ‘bullet‘ of a shot go angling to the top corner in the last few minutes but, the keeper made a fantastic one handed save.
For the first time this season, I felt our inexperience showed in certain quarters with some naive defending (but I am confident the guys will learn), not just the defence but throughout the side.
The opposition were showing a greater physical presence, at times brushing us aside.
Obviously, the physical side of our game wasn‘t helped by the continued absence of Barnsey, and Solly struggling to get back to a 90 minutes fitness, plus Frankie nursing a strained hamstring.
The highlight of the day was Tom (‘Ginger Spice‘) Halliwell, scoring two more goals, taking his tally to six, surpassing his total for the whole of last season, and overtaking Frankie for top goal scorer this season.
Still the guys, Frankie and I were not to disheartened. This is tough place to go, and we had already achieved our target of 9 points out of the 12 for the month of September, and when the other results came through only Acle & Blofield had taken full advantage of the slip. Wroxham, Dersingham, Cromer and Sprowston had all dropped points.
