The switch of fixture from Pinebanks to Lowestoft meant we entered this game without our normal background information on the opposition, having previously sent ‘chief scout‘ Stu Vincent to watch Norwich Union the week before!
This didn’t, however, impact on our decision making having decided to experiment on certain areas of our line up and play.
Tony Shipley and Mark Way returned to the starting line up.
The early exchanges had us in control, but a good, youthful, Lowestoft side started to come into the game and were some what unfortunate not to score when a ball hit the underside of the bar and post before resting in Cuddy’s hands. We then opened our account when Tony Shipley miss hit his shot when the ball fell to him in front of goal, completely deceiving a grounded keeper.
Mark Whitmore then headed a second following a set piece, and we probably had our best period of the game.
Some reorganisation and tactical discussion at half time saw us looking a little more in control following the restart, but we failed to take our chances and with 15 minutes to go, Lowestoft scored the best goal of the game with a well struck dipping volley giving Cuds no chance.
Then followed a nervous 15 minutes as we saw the potential of points slipping a way and were thankful to both Cuds and the bar for a second time as we shakily saw ourselves over the finishing line.
In two weeks time, no one will remember how three points were obtained, they are on the points total now and another difficult venue visited.
Thanks again to Lowestoft for their hospitality, always very sociable and professional in the way visiting teams entertained.
Thanks to Kevin and Fred who made the trip to watch.
