A point gained or two dropped away at Halvergate was the question asked back at base!?
In my view not two dropped and if anything it was a point luckily gained, after a first half of Halvergate dominance.
Our normal hard running, power game became ineffective as a tough home side more than matched us in a physical encounter that saw bookings for both sides.
Three great saves from man of the match Cudden, plus the woodwork, kept us in the game in the first 45 minutes.
The home team centre forward Chris Fielding caused all sorts of problems as the absence of Marti Addison’s arial power became apparent.
The second half improved after stern words from manager Paul Franklin and we started to create chances but couldn’t convert.
After one goal mouth melee it was difficult to see how we didn’t score with more ‘air shots’ than I have ever seen from both attacker and defender alike as the ball bobbled around in the area.
Much of the play continued to be a midfield battle as both sides competed in their physical manner causing the referee some difficult moments.
Shaun Flint and Tom Halliwell entered the fray on sixty minutes. Both made an impact, particularly Flint, who created himself two good goal scoring opportunities but could not quite finish them.
Hempnall thought they had obtained a penalty when Ben Cussens burst through on the right but the referee waved play on. The game finished goalless which is the first time this season we have failed to find the net.
All in all a disappointing performance. The plusses, a point gained away from home and the performances of the two newest lads, Flint and Cussens.
