After a few changes from our game two weeks ago, Hempnall started
with their youngest team of the season so far with, S Oakley and D Cracknall the
oldest at the age of 22!
The game started with Hempnall kicking up the hill at Saxlingham in a high
tempo, and Hempnall went the closest, when J Paston shot just wide after good
passing play from T Fisher and C Easton.
After 15 minutes of play, the deadlock was broken, as C Easton was
sent running down the right wing, and sent a deadly cross for the strikers to
finish, though it was a Union defender who beat them to it and found the back of
his own net.
By now, Hempnall were in full flow and playing some outstanding football,
and on the 20 minute mark, B Upton found time and space in the Union area to
cooly finsh and send Hempnall in to a 2-0 lead!
Some good defending by all at the back kept the game flowing and Union
at bay! 10 mins before half time, Hempnall found themselves three up from J
Paston, who picked the ball up 25 yards from goal on the turn, and he let
rip with a thunderbolt into the top corner to claim his 17th goal of the
season.
Half-time came, and the talk was of scoring more goals and kill the game
off, and that's what Hempnall set out to do.
The second half started slowly, but Hempnall soon found their flow again,
and plenty of work down the wings, using the pace of D Boyle and C Easton ended
with plenty of crosses, all just out of the reach of the Hempnall
attack.
Union by now started to push, and cause problems, and somehow didn't manage
to find the net when they had a shot come back off the post, with the attacker
missing from close range.
Hempnall still attacked, trying to find the 4th goal, and nearly managed it
when a corner was whipped in, and B Ling's header was well saved by the
goalkeeper.
With 20 minutes left, Hempnall were forced to make two substitutions, with
S Matos replacing B Upton, who worked hard to control the game in the middle,
and D Cracknall being replaced by H Drake.
Union by now had the control of the game and a deep low cross made problems
for Hempnall causing B Ling to convert the ball in his own net.
In the last few minutes of the game, Union got a second goal, when their
sub found room to fire the ball in to the top corner from 20 yards.
When the whistle was blown, relief was felt all around, but three
points were well deserved.
A great work rate and passing play from such a young side was a joy to
watch, and those who watched the young guns of the club said they were
impressed, and all enjoyed the game.
Next game away to Mousehold in the league cup, in which a point will
give us top spot and a place in the semi finals!
Till then, see you around!
