Beccles 1 Hempnall 2
Hempnall's injury crisis continues as they lost Barry Allard from last week they
have now lost their promising young striker Rob Browne, writes Ray Youngman.
Hempnall's afternoon started badly when Tom Halliwell called off late, leaving
managers Clarke and Franklin having to readjust their team, with club coach Bob
Briggs being forced into filling one of the substitutes positions.
On a good but heavy pitch, it was Hempnall who did all the early running, but
suprisingly, they were unable to find the net, despite the chances they were
creating.
It took them until the fortieth minute before they could score and this goal came
via Rob Browne who up until then had given the Beccles defence a difficult time.
The second saw Beccles coming more into the game although the front runners were not
giving the Hempnall defence too many problems.
With the pitch getting heavier, Hempnall continued to press forward, and during one
of these surges, Rob Browne received his injury and saw him take no further part in
the game (he was eventually taken to hospital ).
In the eightieth minute, Sam Wenham, who had been recalled into the team went on one
of his runs down the left he found himself close to the goal line when the ball came
across the goal and he was there to score
The second appeared to have given Hempnall the three points.
However, Beccles then caused Hempnall a little concern when suddenly out of nothing
they scored, when a Hempnall player slipped over to give their striker a clear run
on goal.
Hempnall managed to hold on and take all three points and gain the double over Beccles.
With the lengthy injury problem within the club I understand that Steven Barnes is
on the road to recovery and with some of the University boys home for the holiday
period, at least club wise, for a short period, we should fill a few of the
positions.
Hempnall Reserves 4 Swaffham Reserves 3
Hempnall Reserves, with a few more players available, gained a very important win at
home to Swaffham Reserves.
With Laurie Pointer home for the holiday, this gave the team a little more balance,
plus the fact that Richard Leather was playing up front and soon proved his worth
with a quality hat trick. Jon Phipps scored the fourth.
Norwich Union B 2 Hempnall A 1
The youngsters of Hempnall again gave a good account of themselves, and were
somewhat unfortunate to lose by the odd goal at Norwich Union.
J Paston scoring their goal. They were victims of the club injury problems due to
call up to the higher teams, and had to play with the bare eleven players, but
credit to the Oakley boys who most weekends get the problems from call offs but
always produce a side side
