Lowestoft Reserves 1 Hempnall 2
Hempnall, writes Ray Youngman, went to Lowestoft with a changed team for various reasons, and on the day again did not play to their full potential but managed to secure three more important points and remain on top of the league.
The management made team changes and for the first twenty minutes it appeared that Hempnall would take the game to Lowestoft, but again, we were unable to score.
Lowestoft are a young side and they make any team work hard for a victory The two Hempnall goals came from defenders Mark Whitmore and Tony Shipley. Still on top at the interval Hempnall seemed to lose their grip on the game and allowed Lowestoft to pull a goal back.
Lowestoft by now were working hard for the equaliser but found keeper Cudden difficult to pass.
Mark Way's injury made way for new signing Mark Addison who was able to show a few neat touches in his short time on the pitch.
All in all this was a good result but I am sure Tim Clarke and Co. will be looking for an improvement in the teams next performances.
Lyng United 4 Hempnall Reserves 0
Hempnall Reserves went to Lyng to play a Norfolk Junior Cup game and found their opponents a little to strong for them on the day.
Similar to the First Team, they were missing several regular players and found the game to be an uphill battle all the way. Over the next few weeks there should be a more settled side for manager Paul Sprong to select from.
Sprowston Beehive 3 Hempnall A 1
Hempnall A Team playing away to Sprowston Beehive, scored early in the game and had a chance to increase that lead from the penalty spot, but unfortunately the kick was missed.
For long periods of the game, the young Hempnall team more than held their own and only fell behind in the latter stages of the game.
David Pointer was more than pleased with his teams performance especially against opponents who are known for scoring lots of goals.
Hempnall Veterans 2 Costessey 3
Hempnall Veterans playing at home to Costessey in a cup game conceded three early goals but as the game progressed they improved enough to come close, and only a miss late in the game prevented it going into extra time.
Neil Rafis and Carl Cooper scored the goals.
Just for the record at Hempnall we now have 25 players that have been with the club since they were young lads in the youth section some of which are in the first team eg Ben Cudden Ben Player Tony Shipley Matthew Cawston and Mark Way. Several others are also in the Reserves.
