Hempnall 3 Blofield 4
Hempnall, writes Ray Youngman, made a couple of changes for their home game with Blofield. Ben Player and Steven Barnes returned from injury, and Simon Cracknell was moved to right back. The game started with Blofield in control and early on took the lead while Hempnall were not at their best defensively and as the game continued Blofield, the more experienced team, went further ahead, and again increased the advantage before the interval.
The second half took a different pattern with Hempnall looking a much better outfit. and slowly began to give Blofield a lot more pressure. After only seven minutes of the half, a penalty by Paul Franklin gave them a little more confidence, but again a little lack of concentration gave Blofield their fourth goal and it looked game over.
However, Hempnall worked even harder and pulled the game back to 3 - 4 with goals from Martin Addison and Rob Browne.
Towards the end it was all Hempnall, and a firmly struck shot struck the bar after it appeared to be a goal all the way.
Possibly on the day, Blofield‘s experience won the game, but on the second half performance, the Hempnall players generally felt they probably did deserve the draw they worked so hard for.
The referee, Mr McIntyre, handled a difficult game very well.
Deputy Chairman Stanley Youngman sponsored the game.
