Hempnall 6 North Walsham 2
On a fine afternoon, writes Ray Youngman, and in front of a good of a good gathering of supporters Hempnall started their Norfolk Senior Cup game with some very free flowing football and soon went ahead with a goal from close range by Tom Halliwell.
With the game continuing at a very fast pace Hempnall were having nearly all the play but it took them until the thirty fourth minute before they scored again this time through Rob Browne.and by the interval Browne had completed his hat trick.
The second half was a different story as North Walsham came out a different team and were soon rewarded with two goals with Hempnall suffering through injuries to Paul Franklin and Mark Whitmore. Hempnall were by now gaining more control of their game and again they were a little while before they could score and it was Browne who scored his fourth to seal the game.
Hempnall were well in control and in the eighty fourth minute stand in skipper Adam Solley,at the far post powerfully headed in the sixth.
Considering Hempnall were without skipper Ben Player and experienced central defender Tony Shipley. New signing Martin Addison, in his his first full game proved to be a very capable deputy at the heart of the defence. The three Hempnall substitutes also played a valuable part in this result.
It must also be mentioned that Referee Colin Muir and his two assistants played a great part in the game with some very sensible decisions as I am sure the supporters witnessed a very entertaining game from both teams. I trust the Radio Norfolk reporter enjoyed his afternoon. The club are grateful to Paul Anderson for sponsoring the game.
CEYMS Reserves 3 Hempnall Reserves 7
Hempnall Reserves travelled to CEYMS with a very experienced team to play their KO Cup game which they won comfortably. The game itself was a high scoring game and full of some good football from both teams.
Hempnall goals coming from James Spurgeon (2), John King (2), Joe Mcdonald and Tom Amis.
Hempnall A 0 Costessey 2
Hempnall A, playing their home game at Saxlingham played some of their best football so far this season and were very unfortunate to lose to a more physical Costessey team.
This very youthful team literally worked their socks off in trying to obtain a result which according to Matthew Oakley they at least deserved a draw. Sam Potkins at the heart of the defence had an outstanding game and David Pointer was pleased with the young lads who in Davids words will get a lot better as the season progresses.
EON Ipswich 2 Hempnall Veterans 6
Hempnall Veterans travelled to Ipswich with the bare eleven players who excelled themselves in gaining their first win of the current campaign. Credit must go to their team manager Andy Soanes who spent most of his weekend trying to raise a team (and he did) and at the end of the day all his efforts proved to be worthwhile.
Tony Ward was again outstanding as was recent signing Francis Page who scored three of the goals. Micky Leeder scored two with Tony Ward scoring the other.
