Hempnall 4 North Walsham 1
On a cold and very wet afternoon, writes Ray Youngman, where pitch wise perhaps I should have called the game off, but result wise it's a good job I did not.
Despite the conditions both teams adapted well and there was a considerable ammount of good football played at either end. North Walsham took the lead when a long throw in eventually found its way into the net, alhtough there was an element of doubt as to whether it touched anyone on its way but the goal was allowed to stand, and that we accept.
The second half started in worsening conditions, but it didn't take Hempnall long to score when Martin Addison's shot from way out found its way in through a group of defenders.
Twenty minutes later, Addison scored his second, closely followed with one from Tim Downs.
North Walsham, in the meantime, were still well in the game and were themselves still looking dangerous on the break and could well have scored.
Two minutes from the end of the game, Addison completed his hat trick to earn himself the Man of the Match award (not bad for a central defender).
Without taking anything away from the Hempnall team, North Walsham are a hard working side and will cause problems for a lot of teams, but on the day Hempnall were well worthy of their victory.
Referee Gary High was, as usual well on top of his game and in the terrible conditions controlled the game well.
The Laundry Room were the Match Sponsors and we thank them for their generosity. Also extended appreciation to the BRF who did well to brave the elements to support their team.
The A Team, at South Walsham also in terrible weather and conditions narrowly lost 3 - 4 (Olly Sayer 2, Jacob Paston 1).
The Reserves game at Mattishall and the Veterans game with Albion Mills were both victims of wet pitches.
