North Walsham 2 Hempnall 0
Hempnall, writes Ray Youngman, travelled to North Walsham with a different looking team, as keeper Ben Cudden was working, and Martin Addison injured. Mark Whitmore was relegated to the subs bench, allowing Simon Cracknell and Calum Webb to play at the heart of the defence.
The game was a lot better for Hempnall than the scoreline suggests, and the team, as usual, worked hard for the entire game for very little reward - something that has affected the team of late.
Walsham took the lead with a goal of some quality, well struck from outside the area. Several chances fell to Hempnall, but all to no avail.
Two clear cut penalty appeals were turned down, and this seemed to take something away from the team.
Injuries to a few players made things a little more difficult
Walsham went further into the lead when the Hempnall defence was caught well out of position.
On chances, Hempnall should have won the game, and Walsham must certainly thank their keeper for stopping Hempnall from taking all the points on the night.
Credit to Walsham, who certainly played well and were able to do what Hempnall could not i.e. score goals, something you have to do to win games.
Oulton Broad 2 Hempnall Reserves 0
Hempnall Reserves travelled to Oulton Broad's Walmer Road, to play on a very hard and dry pitch, and came away with nothing against a very good side.
The game was end to end in the difficult conditions, which Oulton Broad were clearly used to. The young side of Hempnall played their part in the game, but like the first team found scoring a little difficult.
Hempnall Reserves 0 Hellesdon 4
For their last home game of the season, Hempnall Reserves had difficulty in raising a side, as there was several of the players away in Spain for the weekend, but credit to Paul Sprong, David Pointer and Matthew Oakley, who did well to raise a side consisting of several young members of the A Team.
Hellesdon, a very good side, were somewhat flattered by the scoreline, and were also somewhat fortunate in scoring their goals, which were all gifts.
The referees assistant's flag did spoil Hempnall's chances , when a Hempnall goal was disallowed. Manager Paul Sprong was forced into playing at the heart of the defence and did well against the Hellesdon strikers.
Matthew Atkins, despite being on the losing side, was by far the best player on the pitch with some top class defending.
Hempnall A 0 Freethorpe Reserves 1
Hempnall A Team played their last game of the season at Freethorpe and lost narrowly to the last kick of the game.
Again, this young team played their socks off to return home with nothing.
In their first ever season in adult football, this team have enjoyed several oustanding results in finishing in mid table, also reaching the semi final of the League Cup.
The Oakley Boys have been oustanding as Team Managers and players throughout the season.
This team is often at the end of team raising problems higher up, but have alway raised a side apart from the Marlborough Arms game when the lads were all taken away, within the rules of football, and were punished for it by the system through no fault of their own.
