Hempnall Reserves 1 Acle Reserves 2.
Hempnall Reserves played at Acle on Bank Holiday Monday morning.
With a different team, they suprised everyone with how well they played against a team fighting for promotion.
The team fell behind early in the game to two soft goals, which placed them on the back foot for a time, until Lawrie Pointer scored from the penalty spot to get them back into the match, and perhaps even sense victory.
From then on, the young Hempnall team worked tirelessly, and were well on top for a large part of the game but could not score.
They did deserve more from the game but in the end lost out narrowly, by the single goal.
As mentioned earlier, the young players worked hard. Young Sam Page, plus Lawrie Pointer, who was making a rare appearance, worked extremely well, and both certainly deserve a mention for their efforts, as does father of Sam, the evergreen Francis Page, whose experience added strength to the team.
Referee Richard Owen controlled the game well and we thank Acle for their hospitailty for the two games played during the last week.
These are the last Reserve Team notes of the season as this was their last match of the season.
