Hempnall Reserves, playing at home to highly placed Thetford Rovers, started a little disjointed on a hard and very dry pitch and at a very windy Bungay Road ground.
Despite not playing well, they managed to defend well in keeping out a lively Thetford team. The game itself was fast and free flowing with neither team creating too many scoring chances.
Though playing against the strong wind in the second half, Hempnall gradually got on top and they went in front when the experienced Jon King found time to lob the keeper from outside the area. King then put them further ahead when again his pace saw him score another quality goal.
Hempnall then allowed Thetford back into the game when, from a Hempnall corner, the ball was quickly cleared upfield, heavily wind assisted, to leave their striker free to score.
As the game continued, both sides pressed for more goals, but the game ended with a welcome result for Hempnall and on reflection they fully deserved to win on the day.
Marlborough Arms 5 Hempnall A 2
Playing away to a very strong Marlborough team, the youthful Hempnall A team were suprisingly two goals ahead but somehow lost their shape to concede five goals.
The scoreline did flatter Marlborough a little as the Hempnall team worked hard for no reward on the day.
Sonny Artherton scored two more good goals to take his tally in three games to six.
Overjoyed joint manager Stuart Oakley was pleased to hear the news that his team were named "Team of the Month" for March with four very well earned victories. This is a fine achievement for a team in its first year in adult football especially as last year nearly all the team were playing in youth football.
Well done to Stuart and his joint manager brother Matthew who work so tirelessly for the club.
