Ray retires

The club has learned that groundsperson, Ray Youngman, has retired after in excess of 60 years serving the club in various positions inclduing Secretary / Treasurer for a record number of years. He has won many awards over the years, including South Norfolk Sunday league award twice, the Norwich and South Norfolk League once and the Norwich Business Houses League once.

He also won the Norfolk County FA Grounds Man award twice, the Peruzzi Metals Services to sport three times, and the Keith Peel Services to Sport, plus the Voluntary Norfolk Community Champions award (shared with his wife) and has also received two gold medals, one from the FA in London and one from Norfolk County FA.

We at the club also awarded Ray a the Crystal Glass award for his 50 years at Hempnall Football Club and a further Glass award for his 60 years at the club.

Ray did retire a couple of years ago, but supervised a couple of willing learners in the art of harrowing and rolling the pitch, then decided the job needed to be done properly and has been continuing until recently keeping the pitch up to scratch.

We all thank Ray for his work over the years, and wish him well in his retirement.
