Hempnall First Team v Harleston Town

Report By No specific role (No role)

Saturday, 19th October 2013, 2:30PM, at Hempnall #1

Home Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2013 - 2014

Loss, 1 - 2

We entertained local rivals Harleston in the league, the game was very entertaining with both teams attacking at every opportunity although it was great for the supporters it wasn’t so great for both teams managers.

Harleston opened the scoring early on when a move was broken up in midfield and a catalogue of mistakes gave Harleston a clear shot on goal, where a great placed side foot was neatly tucked inside the far post, the game was a feisty affair with both teams fully committed in the tackle and most of the play was in the centre of the pitch.

Halsey went into a solid 50/50 but for the first time this season came away with a bad injury, he tried to carry on but was soon replaced, the lads then started to rally and a great 30 yard dipping shot from Knight beat the keeper but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced safely away, Jones and Thomas went close just before half time but at the break it was 1-0.

The second half started at a furious pace, Knight and Mortimer were playing some great football in the centre of the park and Jones and Chapman down the wings looked dangerous, with the aggressive football Hempnall forced a corner down the right, a great corner was meet with a glorious header by Dowling and the score was 1-1.

Hempnall tails were up and pushed Harleston onto the back foot the game was being played in the Harleston half and apart from a few long balls Hempnall looked in full control of the game going close on another 4 or 5 occasions, against the run of play Harleston had a breakaway down the left a great cross was intercepted but the clearance hit the back of a Hempnall player and rolled perfectly to a Harleston player who tucked the ball away 2-1 to Harleston and only 1 minute remained on the clock, from the kick off Hempnall forced a fine save from the Harleston keeper at the expense of a corner.

The ref was looking at his watch and a fantastic corner by Knight was finger-tipped over as the ref blew the final whistle.
