Hempnall First Team v Horsford United

Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)
Report By Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)

Saturday, 08th December 2018, 2PM, at

Home Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2018 - 2019

Loss, 0 - 7

Hempnall welcomed Horsford Reserves to Hempnall, with Paddy Bevis returning with his squad that included several former Hempnall players. Regrettably, Hempnall were without 8 regular first team squad members for a variety of reasons, mainly injury, with work commitments, illness and a suspension all playing their part.

When you are missing the likes of Etherington, Billy Kelly, Collins, Aaron Clarke, Hartle, Griffiths, Bennett, and with Ellis bravely playing through injury, and even the manager, Bunn, rolling back the years to shore up the midfield, we thought it might be a tricky game, and so it proved.

From the off, with new Hempnall players Self and Cleverley trying to fit into their new team, Horsford always looked the stronger, Davis was called into action early on with a fine diving save, but was beaten shortly after, and the game drifted out of Hempnall’s reach.

Hempnall worked hard but never really looked like breaching the Horsford defence with any regularity, and despite a couple of corners, the first half ended with Hempnall 0-5 down.

Hempnall improved in the second half, and had a couple of decent attacks, but not sufficient to really trouble the keeper.

Hempnall never gave up, and hopefully, will get players returning quickly to bolster the team and get us back to the level we were at earlier in the season.

Despite the heavy 0-7 defeat, several players had decent games, my MOM though is Justin Womack for an all action performance.
