Hempnall FC

Today we witnessed probably the worst performance by the first team at Bungay Road this season.

After the previous two home games, beating Redgate Rangers and drawing against Easton, we expected a good performance, but it was not to be.

Hempnall started the game brightly enough, and there didn’t look to be much in the teams for the first twenty minutes or so, chances limited to half chances.

But then it started going pear shaped, with Freethorpe’s young players up front more than a match for Hempnall’s defence, and their back four able to withstand Hempnall’s attacks quite comfortably, and for the most part, their midfield getting most of the second balls and surging forward much more frequently than Hempnall managed.

Hempnall to a large extent were the authors of their own downfall, failing to clear the ball, allowing Freethorpe the run of the pitch, going in two down at the interval.

The second half started a bit better, and for the first 15 minutes we had a match, but then things went downhill, and whilst Billy Kelly and James Bennett both had chances, the latter attracting a good save from the Freethorpe keeper, things didn’t go to plan, and Freethorpe scored another.

Hempnall heads dropped, and the final score of 0-6 was probably flattering to Hempnall in truth, when considering their MOM was Taylor Davies in goal, who pulled off a couple of very good saves, and was blameless for the Freethorpe goals.

Two or three Hempnall players did have decent games, but there just seemed to be a lack of urgency, or poor passing that left us wondering how Hempnall can play really well one week, then go to sleep the next.
