Hempnall First Team v (HT 0-2)

Home Match, Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2019 - 2020

Loss, 0 - 4

Hempnall entertained a Poringland side that included former Hempnall favourite Charlie Lambe and led by Dale Oxborough. Without the injured Kelly, and again missing Clarke in defence, the team were stretched with two of their best players unavailable.

Well, all in all, what a disappointing game from the Hempnall perspective, the team couldn’t gel on a hard, bouncy pitch, the usual flowing football was not there today, so the management again have to try and consider what the missing ingredient is.

From the off, Poringland looked strong, and for some reason, the off colour Hempnall allowed the opposition to dictate play.

Nevertheless, Hempnall had half chances, but were just not able to either provide the final ball or were taking the wrong option, so, we could see one of those games in the offing.

That is really how it was, and with Poringland’s Lambe taking his two opportunities well, Hempnall went into the break 2-0 down, but still thinking they could play better against the wind in the second half.

For the most part, that is exactly how it panned out, and Hempnall were looking as though they could pull the game back.

The referee disallowed a Hempnall goal as he had blown early, so we went back to the outside of the penalty area, and the free kick was not converted. Hempnall felt it was not their day.

Compounding this, a Hempnall shot rattled the post, and the ball fell clear.

From here, Poringland again stepped up, scored another couple, and Hempnall went away from a poor performance disappointed they conceded four, and couldn’t reply.
