Hempnall First Team v Swaffham Town Res

Jason Trett (Chairman)
Report By Jason Trett (Chairman)

Saturday, 21st April 2018, 2:30PM, at Shoemakers Lane #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 3 - 2017 - 2018

Win, 4 - 1

Today we travelled to Swaffham in need of 3 points in our fight to stay in the division.

Swaffham were also looking for 3 points in their promotion bid.

With a few players missing we knew it would be difficult, but we did welcome back James Edwards, Wayne Collins and dean Mortimer.

Hempnall started the game with a good tempo going down the slope and were playing good football, the back four of Bennett, Kelly, Edwards and Oli West dealt with everything that came their way and Bunno in goal was more a spectator in the first half.

Hempnall took a deserved lead on 10 minutes when Hartle finished from a few yards after the keeper spilled the first shot.

Hempnall continued to put Swaffham under pressure and took a 2-0 lead from a Clarkey header from 8 yards.

Hempnall's four of Kelly, Ethrington, Collins and Belligham were controlling the midfield and the front two, Hartle and Clarke, linked up well together.

Half time 0-2.

Dean Mortimer came on for the start of the second half for Clarke. For the first 10 minutes, Swaffham were on top but the back four of Hempnall gave them no chances.

On 55 minutes, Hempnall went down to 10 men when Hartle had to sit in the sin bin for 10 minutes.

Swaffham pulled a goal back on 60 minutes (Trett missed an offside, sorry guys) to make it 1-2.

However, this appeared to lift Hempnall.

On 65 minutes we had 11 men back on the pitch, but 5 minutes later, back down to 10 men as Beefy had 10 minutes in the sin bin, but with 10 men, Hempnall dug in deep and Edwards and Kelly defended with passion.

With 10 mins left, Deano finished the game off to make it 1-3 and 5 minutes later , he scored his second after good work from Billy Kelly to make it a final score 1-4.

Excellent today lads, but our discipline could have cost us today, so let's learn from it.

All 12 players were superb but my joint m.o.m goes to Wayne Collins and James Edwards.
