Hempnall First Team v Wymondham Town

Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)
Report By Trevor Shurmer (Club Secretary)

Saturday, 05th September 2015, 2:30PM, at Kings Head Meadow #1

Away Match, Anglian Combination Division 1 - 2015 - 2016

Loss, 1 - 4

After making the tortuous journey to Wymondham (the President was driving......), we hoped for a performance similar to that seen the week before against Sheringham, but it was not to be.

On what, from the sidelines seemed to be a tricky pitch, Hempnall went down 4-1 in a game that was, though, much closer than the score suggested.

The Manager decided not to play himself, but was confident the team he selected would do the business.

However, whilst looking as good as the opposition throught most of the park, defensive lapses allowed Wymondham to go 2-0 up, and Wymondham were not allowing the skillful Hempnall wide players the time or space to heavily influence the game.

Hempnall certainly had their moments, with the Wymondham keeper pulling off a fine save to deny Kelly, and Hempnall also had headers cleared off the line, so Wymondham rode their luck at times.

The Wymondham number 11 was probably the best player on the park on the day, and was giving the Hempnall defence a difficult time, he was perhaps the difference in the two sides.

With legs tiring, the game was end to end, with Hempnall coming back into it with a fine finish from Tom McCarthy after an assist from promising 'new boy, Aiden Boast, and Hempnall created a bit of pressure for a while, but then Wymondham were given breathing space with a third, and a fourth followed in the last minute to deny Hempnall a place in the next round of the Cup.

There is little doubt that the Hempnall squad will start to gel and create good teams many problems.
