Anglian Combination Premier » First Team v Cromer Town » Home Loss » 0-2 | League Table
If points were awarded for performances then we would find ourselves in a much healthier league position. Unfortunately they are not, its results that count & goals that deliver them.
We always knew this was an area that needed strengthening & worked hard to find the players to give us that much needed fire power. So why isn’t it happening?
Well a quick look at the team sheet shows that 4 of those newly obtained potential goal scorers were not involved on Saturday! With Stevenson & Shearer injured, Sam Page having gone back to Dereham & Stu Chrystal transferred to Bradenham.
So on Saturday it fell to the old guard. But with Franky heavily hampered by a hamstring problem & other potential goal scorers not firing on all cylinders, we drew another blank despite creating more chances than our opponents.
Taking into account Cromer, as was the with Blofield 2 weeks previous, are amongst the title favourites it is becoming a very frustrating time as we more than matched them in all round play.
But again fell to defeat as the deadlock was only broken by 2 second half penalties, other than that Cuddy only had one worthwhile save to make in a 1 to 1 with Terra.
The first penalty I felt was dubious as Neil Bugdale made the most of Marty Addison’s trailing leg. The second, no dispute, as a tired leg from Rob Browne brought down Dale Wilton.
Special mention for Jamie Pretty who had virtually marked the young starlet out of the game & I don’t think it was any real coincidence his only real telling moment in the game came when JP had been tactically removed to go to a more attacking formation that was forced upon us after the first penalty.
Ben Nichols picked up another injury after 15 minutess with a strained hamstring but should only be out for 1 to 2 weeks.
So where does this leave us? Well, needing to be patient, determined & working even harder. I believe the results will come, we have too many good players for it not too & in the main our performances are good.
Hopefully the injured will start to return with at least 4 having deadlines that would see them back in the next month. Plus Tim Downs (work) & Neil Renaut (illness/holiday) return this Saturday.
Tom Halliwell had another good game to secure the man of the match award.
This Saturday we travel to Loddon for a very important game.
