Anglian Combination D2 » Reserves v Downham Town Res » Home Win » 2-0 | League Table
Hempnall welcomed Downham Market Reserves to Bungay Road looking to be less charitable than they were the week before against Easton.
The management team decided to change the formation and to welcome back Kristian Jones, Ross Jones and Jack Tarrant to the starting eleven.
To begin with the game was quite even with Hempnall taking a while to adapt to their new formation. Once they did though there was no looking back.
Chances fell to Matt Barrett, Ross Potter and Gav Whitting as Hempnall looked to convert their dominance into goals.
HT : 0-0
The message to the players at Half Time was simple, not to be complacent and to keep doing what we were doing.
The players did exactly that as they continued to create chance after chance. Hempnall took a deserved lead when Kristian Jones burst into the box, gave the goalkeeper the eyes and finished neatly into the near post.
Hempnall continued to perform well with Emmett working particularly hard down the left, Matt Barrett and Matt Cartledge dictating the game in the middle and Kristian Jones working hard up front.
As the game entered into its final minutes Hempnall did become a bit nervy and after conceding a corner allowed a Downham player a free header from only a few yards out, luckily for Hempnall the ball cannoned back off the post.
The Downham defence became quite stretched in the final minutes, substitute Spurgeon battled with the goalkeeper outside of his area and the ball dropped to Matt Barrett who in turn lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper and into the empty net to send the visiting fans (Toasty and Anton) into raptures!!
FT : 2-0
Great win, onwards and upwards!!
