Anglian Combination D2 » Reserves v Thetford Rovers » Home Win » 4-0 | League Table
Hempnall welcomed Thetford Rovers to Bungay Road for a 4pm kick off.
Manager Potter pointed out to the players that this was a must win game if Hempnall were to achieve 5th.
A slight reshuffle saw Hempnall play 3 pacey front men, Tarrant return to the holding midfield role and Ian Garrod slotted in at right back.
A down pour just before kick off gave the pitch some much needed grease to allow both the teams to play their passing game.
The match was a very even one with Hempnall being very clinical in front of goal and opening up a 3-0 half time lead.
The first came from Jordan Mace, the goalkeeper scuffed a clearance and from around 40 yards out at an angle Jordan lofted the ball into the empty goal. Thetford had a few openings but nothing of any note before a through ball from Andy Clitheroe was diverted passed the onrushing keeper by a luckless defender.
Hempnall now had plenty of belief and continued to attack their opponents and after Lee Barrett was felled in the box by the goalkeeper there was only going to be one outcome as Andy the penalty king Clit Heroe stroked the ball home for yet another goal for him in a memorable season.
Hempnall came in at half time pleased to be 3-0 up but weary that their opponents had come back from 3-1 down to earn a share of the spoils in the away fixture. Clitheroe was replaced by Hyett after looking jaded and Hempnall lost the influential Mace to injury who was replaced by the returning Moseley.
Thetford played with a lot more width in the 2nd half and Hempnall were backs to the wall for a lot of it with Beetensen pulling off some great saves to keep the score at 3-0. Hempnall knew a 4th was needed to kill off their opponents and this duly arrived as Lee Barrett slotted home no 4.
A great all round team performance, with the attackers being clinical in front of goal, the midfield dominant against a good midfield and the back 5 collecting a clean sheet.
All 3 subs, Hyett, Moseley and Whitting came on to put in great performances.
The result keeps Hempnalls hopes of 5th place alive, onto another 6 pointer against Wortwell.
