Anglian Combination D2 » Reserves v Wortwell » Away Loss » 1-2 | League Table
On the back of our winning streak of 7 games, we travelled to Wortwell, albeit with a massively changed side from the previous weeks win at Attleborough, but nevertheless still brimming with confidence.
Steve Van Raalt came in at left back, Garrod moved back to play centre half next to Potter, Emmett replaced Dye at right back, Hyett returned to midfield and Sidell replace Kristian Jones up top.
We began the game fairly sluggishly, showing a lack of passion and desire allowing our opponents to win plenty of first and second ball, this however didn’t hurt us too much as our opponents didn’t create much until a ball was given away in a poor area allowing the Wortwell player to cross, a defensive error allowed Hadleigh Wright the simple task of finishing past Beetensen.
We fought back into the game and began to compete without playing our usual passing football.
Moseley went close having a shot cleared off the line and moments later fter a series of balls were played back into the box after a corner Clitheroe was able to hang the ball up for Sidell to head home.
The battle continued up til half time with neither side creating much.
HT : 1-1
The half time team talk from the management asked for more of the desire shown in the Attleborough game plus more thought when in possession.
They got the first instruction as the team toiled and battled hard against a very hard working outfit, again the 2nd half was a bit of a non event, these are the type of games where its all about the three points.
Hempnall appeared to have got these when Moseley headed home from a corner, the players ran off to celebrate only for the linesman to raise a belated flag to advise the ref the ball had gone out.
Minutes later a hopeful ball forward from Wortwell was not dealt with by the Hempnall defence and Hadleigh Wright was able to play in a team mate to fire past Beeto.
Hempnall chucked the kitchen sink at Wortwell in the final minutes and with the last kick of the match Moseley appeared to score the all important equaliser only for a defender to divert the ball over the bar from underneath the bar!! Amazing.
FT 1-2
Given that, it was a game we expected 3 points from. And yet, against a hardworking side, throw in a couple of individual errors and a very dubious disallowed goal that would have taken us 1-2 up with 15 mins to go, and we are left with a journey home and week at work cursing ourselves for collecting zero points !!
It was a disappointing performance, especially after the highs of the previous few weeks, but it was incredibly frustrating as we did feel slightly robbed after the disallowed goal but alas our protests made no difference and our winning steak came to an end.
