Comment on this article

Firstly let me start by giving a big congratulations message to Ross, Dave & the rest of the Reserve boys who yesterday gained promotion to Anglian Combination Division 2 with their 4-2 victory over Caister.

Well done boys a fantastic job done by all.

For our part we returned to winning ways with a 5-0 victory over last seasons champions Sheringham, this despite all Wednesday’s defenders being absent i.e. Carl Harwin (injured) Lee Devlin (injured), Marty Addison & Greg Devlin both away.

This again shows the benefit of the depth of the squad with JP, Ben Nichols, Neil Renaut & Kelvin Willimott all joining the starting line up.

The changes were seamless as again all the players stuck to the changed game plan and shape with discipline and attitudes that make these boys a pleasure to manage.

The side has changed, the roles have changed, people have been left out but attitudes have not changed. First class guys, shows an admirable respect for each other.

The game started fairly evenly with the usual battle for supremacy attached to this fixture. There was no sign of the player shortage & issues recently reported in the champions match write ups.

However, midway through the half Skipper Ben Player broke the deadlock when he arrived with perfect timing to smash the ball into the top corner of the net.

Sheringham continued to compete but didn’t really open us up, with the new defence looking solid.

Browney brought a good one handed save out of Jackson & Hunts crashed a ball over the bar when well placed. Neil Renaut found an opening but the angle proved to tight to convert.

So, a solitary goal divided the sides at the break.

The request was for more of the same but taking more care of the ball & composure in delivery.

Within 15 minutes of the restart 4 goals were added as the boys started to click. The first a trade mark Mills header as he rose unmarked in the 6 yard box. The next a bullet header from Browney on the far post after a peach of a cross from Kelvin found his head perfectly.

Franky then had a simple tap in after a good run from Browney found him free in the box.

Finally, a good run and cross down the left from Wenham found Downsy completely free to head home into an unguarded net.

The game was obviously over as a contest & strikers Browne & Franklin made way, allowing them much needed rest in preparation for the tough visit to Mattishall.

Sheringham never gave up & we continued to search for more goals but the score remained at 5.

Well done to all in a good performance but special mention to Millsy & Kelvin who shared the top vote for man of the match.
