Anglian Combination D3 » Reserves v Caister Res » Away Win » 5-1 | League Table
The reserves kicked off their league campaign with a comfortable 5-1 win at Caister. The match began with a scare for the Hempnall defence, after a poor kick off a Caister player broke through and lobbed the ball over the advancing M. Ayton only to see his effort cannon back off the upright.
This was a wake up call for Hempnall and they began to up their game with L. Barrett, S. Page and D. Jones all going close. Once again though the finishing let them down and they went in at half time 0-0.
HT : 0-0
Hempnall began the second half like they finished the first, much on top. Andy Clitheroe broke away down the right and his cross shot was palmed out by the goalkeeper only as far as S. Wenham who slotted home.
This gave Hempnall the confidence they needed and S. Page headed home after L. Barrett headed back across goal.
L. Barrett added a third before R. Leather added a fourth after coming on as sub. Hempnall cruelly lost their chance of a clean sheet after a long range free kick deflected off D.Jones past the outstretched M. Ayton.
This didn’t stop Hempnall though and minutes later D. Jones sealed the 5-1 win with a great long range effort.
This was a good result for Hempnall at a hard place to visit. After looking at this weeks results Hempnall can expect a much tougher challenge when they visit Beccles next week but this is a challenge they are ready for.
